The patient began wearing nitrile rubber gloves at work and her eczema improved. When the patient wore nitrile rubber gloves, the DMG test was negative on the inside of the gloves. This was associated with the patient handling more nickel-containing items with her left hand at work. The DMG on the patient's skin showed stronger positive on her left-hand, which subsequently exhibited more severe dermatitis symptoms. The DMG test performed on her hands 2 hours before work was negative for nickel and the DMG test performed 2 hours after work was positive for nickel. The patient was tested using the DMG test for the presence of nickel. A patch test showed a 3 + reaction (i.e., extreme reaction) to nickel sulfate.
